11/21 MS Physics update and homework due 12/6

Hi folks, Today we took the time to review everything we've done so far this year.  To do so, we had a game show.  For the first half of class the students looked through all their notes and quizzes and created at least five questions for the game show.  The rest of class is the challenge of each team answering the questions to earn points.  It's a lot of fun and a great way to review the year.  I was going to assign homework for this week but almost everyone did so well on this week's quiz, I'm going to give you a break!  Congratulations and enjoy Thanksgiving! May your travels be safe and your turkey be tasty. Best, Jim Mueller

No MS Physics Recording this week

Hi folks, The entire class was taken up with the lab this week so no recording.  For those who missed class, there was really no new content.  We just worked in more detail with Newton's 2nd law. Best, Jim Mueller (919) 907-3217

11/14 MS physics update and homework due 11/21

Hi folks, First off, next week is the last week of this trimester so please try to get any missing homework in by next week.  If you're not sure if you are missing anything please email me and I'll get let you know if and what you're missing. Second, next week's quiz will cover stuff from all the classes so far so be sure to look over all those old quizzes.  I'd recommend covering your old answers and retaking the quiz all over again.  That way you will really be able to know if you have mastered the material or not.  This week's homework is lighter to give you time to study.  You're welcome.  :) Today we got a bit deeper into Newton's second law, F=MA.   Those four little symbols pack a lot of meaning, so I wanted us to spend a bit more time with the concept. To do so, we used Hot Wheels cars and a "Force-in-ator" to see what the effect of force and mass was on acceleration.  The students had to do some careful data collection in order to calc...

11/7 MS Physics Recording - Newton's Second Law

Part 1 Part 2

11/7 MS Physics update and homework due 11/14

Hi folks, Well today we got into Newton's Second Law. It's one of my favorite concepts of the year because it can be seen and applied to so many everyday things like sports and work. To get the hang of it, we went outside and pulled a wagon. Each student pulled the wagon three times and each time we added mass by adding another student to the wagon. We could very easily see that more mass the wagon had, the less the student was able to accelerate the wagon. For homework 3 assignments this week.  1. Read the Newton's 2nd law chapter in the book and do the questions at the end of the chapter.  (You can skip the math ones if you wish.) 2. Also, answer the following questions.  (Answers below.  Please check them to make sure you understand the right answers. ) 3. Take two pictures of examples of Newton's second law.  Be sure to tell me where is the force, the mass and the acceleration in the picture. There will be a quiz next week so make sure to st...
