1/9 MS Physics update and homework due 1/16

Hi folks,

Today we had quite a bit of fun with our new concept of impulse.  Impulse is the amount of time a force is applied to something.  The more impulse something receives, the more its momentum changes.  To show this, we went outside and shot spitballs!  The farther back the spitball was in the straw, the farther away the spitball flew!

We also did the famous egg drop to illustrate how force can be effected by time and by momentum.

2 assignments for homework this week.

1.  Read the Impulse and Momentum chapter in the text book and do the questions at the end of the chapter.

2.  Do the questions in this email.

Questions:

1.  In your own words, describe to me what shooting spitballs has to do with impulse?

2.  Use the concept of impulse to explain why it's so important to follow through when doing some sort of a sporting activity.

3.  During the egg drop activity, you used several strategies to try to keep your egg from breaking.  List three of those strategies and tell me what they had to do with impulse and momentum.

4.  Take three pictures showing impulse changing momentum.  Write a sentence or two to tell me how the pictures show this.
